Best BBQ (and it's frozen!)

Sadler's Smokehouse has some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten.

The unbelievable plus is that it is available frozen in chain stores such as Wal Mart. It's not terribly cheap, but the sliced brisket I got last time was so thin and so tender that stirring it broke up the meat! Some might criticize that, but it makes it easier to shovel into my mouth.

Even microwaved, it's fantastic.

That's it, no big whoop. To be fair, I haven't tried their other stuff, but why bother when the brisket is this good?

GarageSale and iSight Protip

If you use iwascoding's GarageSale and have tried to use your Macbook's built in webcam for UPC recognition and automatic Ebay template creation, well, it ain't gonna work so well. It doesn't focus well and the resolution is too low.

You need something like the pic above, a DV cam or the original external iSight with an LED white light for good lighting.

The UPC scanner works pretty darn well with this setup. The LED light tilts towards where the UPC is going to be, and you just hold it up to the camera. The camera should be on manual focus.

You can get one of those handy lights at Harbor Freight for about $7. 5 white LEDs, 3 AAA batteries, two brightness settings and the lens tilts for pointing. Wall mount if you want it.

I have 200 or so DVDs to list, so this is a real time saver.

iPhone headphones will probably not work with Archos 504, or any PVR

Well, they work, but the iPhone headset was driving me crazy last night. Warbling in the audio, low volume, etc. rebooting my Archos 504 didn't help. Hmm.

Tried my other set of iPod 'phones that don't have THE BUILT IN MIC.

Doh! I remembered the Archos and many other media players/PVRs etc. have a fourth contact in the headset jack for VIDEO output on the same cable.

So what I was listening to was the video output and audio output at the same time essentially. Oops.

So any headset with a 4 contactor tip (ground, left, right, mic/video) needs to be used with the type of gear it was designed for in many cases.

'duh' magazine solicitations welcome. I publish there on a regular basis.
